Reflect queries and session items

The Workspace is built around asking questions and keeping track of the answers. Reflect queries are how you ask Hindsight a question in natural language, and session items are the record of every question and its result in the current session.

Reflect query panel

The Scope / Reflect query panel sits at the top of the left column. It is a single-purpose query surface: you type a question, adjust options if you need to, and submit it. The answer appears in the Preview tab as an envelope that can contain narratives, graphs, tables, and diagrams.

Writing a query

Queries are plain text. The editor gives you autocomplete helpers:

  • Type # to see base document section types.
  • Type [[ to see the list of grounded entities and edges from the contextual graph.

You can double-click an entity or edge in the autocomplete to insert it into the query. This is useful when you want the model to reason about a specific known entity rather than relying on the query text alone.

AQL syntax errors

Reflect now surfaces AQL syntax errors directly in the Run Query flow. If the query cannot be parsed, the Preview tab shows the error message and the query is not submitted.

Query options

Click the Options switch to show the Reflect-specific options. The defaults are sensible for most queries, but you can change them when you need tighter control.

OptionDefaultWhat it does
Fact typesworld, observationRestricts the kinds of facts Reflect can draw on.
BudgethighHow much retrieval and generation effort to spend. Options are low, mid, high.
Max tokens4096Maximum length of the generated response.
Include source factsOffWhen on, the response includes the source facts used to generate it.
Exclude mental modelsOffWhen on, Reflect ignores plain and derived mental models attached to entities.

Submitting and status

Press the Run Query button or hit Enter to submit. While the query is running, the Preview tab shows a loading state and the session item row displays a running indicator. If the query fails, the error appears in the Preview tab and the session item shows a failed status.

Session items panel

The Session items panel sits below the query panel in the left column. It lists every step in the current session, in chronological order. Each item represents one query or one curated page created in the session.

Origin filter chips

The panel header contains filter chips that limit the visible session items by where they came from. Click a chip to toggle it. This makes it easier to find, for example, only Reflect results or only curated pages in a busy session.

Searching session items

A freetext search filter in the panel header lets you narrow the list by title or query text. Multi-word searches use AND matching, so charging singleview shows only items that contain both words.

What each item shows

ElementMeaning
TimestampWhen the item was created.
Status dotrunning, failed, or completed.
Title or query previewIf the item has a title, the title is shown; otherwise the first line of the query is shown.

Panel counters

The session items header shows the total number of items in scope and how many match the active filters, for example 5 (2). This mirrors the counter style used elsewhere in the Workspace.

Actions on an item

ActionWhat it does
Click the itemOpens the result in the active Preview tab.
Open in new tabOpens the result in a new read-only View tab.
Edit titleGives the item a readable title so you can find it later.
Re-useCopies the query text back into the Reflect query input so you can edit and resubmit it.
Re-runSubmits the same query again, producing a new result.
ProvenanceOpens the query-inspection dialog to see the full request and response metadata.
DeleteRemoves the item from the session permanently.

Item types in the list

Session items are not limited to Reflect queries. The same list also includes:

  • Reflect results — the answers returned by Reflect.
  • Curated pages — pages you created and saved inside the session.
  • Mental-model previews — items opened from the Contextual data panel.

The title or preview text, the status dot, and the available actions adapt to the item type.

Typical workflow

  1. Type a Reflect query in the top-left panel.
  2. Submit it and watch the result appear in the Preview tab.
  3. The new item appears in the Session items list.
  4. Optionally give the item a title so you can find it again.
  5. Re-use, re-run, or open the item in a new tab as needed.
  6. Copy content from the preview into a curated page.

  • The Reflect query panel is the input surface.
  • The Preview tab shows the current output.
  • Session items are the persistent history that let you return to, reuse, or compare earlier results.
  • Curated pages are where selected results become part of a composed document.

Summary

Reflect queries and session items are the question-and-answer loop of the Workspace. The query panel lets you ask Hindsight anything about the selected bank; the session items list keeps every question and answer in order so you can navigate, revisit, and build on your research.
