Bank Settings
Bank Settings in architxt are a single master configuration that controls how content is retained, observed, and reflected inside Hindsight memory banks. Think of them as a template: edit them once in architxt, then push them to one or more Hindsight banks when you are ready to sync.
This page describes the settings you see in the Bank Settings UI and where each setting maps in the Hindsight API.
The Bank Settings page
Open Bank Settings from the main navigation. The page shows one editable master configuration with three sections: Missions, Extraction, and Disposition.
Click Edit to change values, Reset to defaults to restore the built-in architxt defaults, or Save to store the master copy. Saving does not automatically push the settings to Hindsight — push happens from the Hindsight sync page.
Missions
Missions are natural-language instructions that steer the model at different stages of the Hindsight pipeline.
| UI label | What it does | Hindsight reference |
|---|---|---|
| Retain Mission | Tells the model what facts to extract and how to structure them during retention. | Steering extraction with a mission |
| Observations Mission | Guides how raw facts are consolidated into higher-level observations. | Observations mission, observations_mission |
| Reflect Mission | Defines the persona and purpose used when answering Reflect queries. | Mission natural language identity |
Extraction
Extraction settings control how Hindsight breaks up and processes source material.
| UI label | What it does | Hindsight reference |
|---|---|---|
| Retain Extraction Mode | Chooses the extraction strategy: concise, verbose, custom, verbatim, or chunks. | retain_extraction_mode |
| Retain Chunk Size | Maximum chunk size, in tokens, used when splitting documents for retention. | retain_chunk_size |
| Entities Allow Free Form | When enabled, the model can create free-form entity labels instead of only using pre-defined architxt entities. | Part of the retain configuration sent to Hindsight |
Disposition
Disposition sliders shape the tone of the Reflect persona. Each trait ranges from 1 to 5.
| UI label | What it does | Hindsight reference |
|---|---|---|
| Empathy | How much the model mirrors the user's framing. | Disposition traits |
| Literalism | How strictly the model sticks to the source text. | Disposition traits |
| Skepticism | How willing the model is to challenge or qualify claims. | Disposition traits |
Applying bank settings to a Hindsight bank
Bank Settings are not tied to a single bank until you sync them. From the Hindsight page:
- Select a Hindsight server and bank.
- Switch the object selector to Bank Settings.
- Run Diff to compare architxt's master settings with the bank's current settings.
- Click Push to overwrite the bank with the architxt master, or Pull to bring the bank's settings back into architxt.
The diff view shows per-field divergence badges for retain mission, observations mission, reflect mission, extraction mode, chunk size, free-form entities, and disposition.
Where bank settings are used
Once pushed to a Hindsight memory bank, the settings become the bank's retain configuration. They influence every subsequent retain, observation, and Reflect operation against that bank.

Bank Settings sit above individual documents and mental models. They define the global behavior applied when architxt pushes content to a Hindsight bank, and they can be pulled back from a bank to update the master configuration.
Summary
Bank Settings are architxt's master Hindsight configuration. Edit missions, extraction mode, chunk size, and disposition locally, then push that configuration to any connected Hindsight memory bank to keep retention and reflection behavior consistent.
